OMSTAND presenteert: een samenwerking tussen BEAR ArtEZ en Omstand.
Werkperiode / presentatie / tentoonstelling van de tutor-groep van Hester Oerlemans van BEAR – de fine-art afdeling van ArtEZ.
Een presentatie verdeeld over 6 projecten. Veel dank aan Tutor Hester Oerlemans (ArtEZ ) en Rob Groot Zevert (OMSTAND).

GEMEUBILEERDE KAMER BESCHIKBAAR

In het Transparant House – het Glazen Huis van Omstand exposeren 6 kunstenaars hun werk. De route van het glazen huis volgend, verbeeldt het interieur ook een thuis. We zien een tafel, een tapijt en een rattenplaag in de ruimte. Maar hoe weten we zeker dat het een thuis is, kan iemand in dit huis wonen? De kunstenaars probeerden een installatie van een huis te maken door alleen hun kunstwerken te gebruiken. Door hun schilderijen op de ramen te plaatsen wordt privacy van het huis gecreëerd en hoefden er geen functionele gordijnen gebruikt te worden. Er hangt wasgoed aan het plafond, wachtend om te drogen. Dit huis wacht op iemand die er wil wonen. Hoe zou jij het vinden om in dit open huis te wonen? Gelukkig helpt de kroonluchter met amuletten om van het ongeluk af te komen.

ALTIJD DEZELFDE VORM, ALLEEN ERG TALRIJK

Wat is thuis? De perceptie van ruimte kan enorm variëren, afhankelijk van het onderwerp dat het ervaart. Terwijl het comfort van een vertrouwde omgeving soms bescherming en zorg betekent, kan een thuis tegelijkertijd gelijk staan aan een persoonlijke hel waar je niet aan kunt ontsnappen. In het midden van de turbinekamers wordt de ruimte op kleinere schaal nagebouwd en omgetoverd tot een zogenaamd gastvrij thuis. Om deze installatie te maken, hebben we ons laten inspireren door het korte verhaal The Yellow Wallpaper, om een verhaal te vertellen over opsluiting dat het publiek zelf kan samenstellen, aan de hand van de verschillende elementen die in de ruimte aanwezig zijn.

DE WARMTE VAN EEN BIJEENKOMST

De warmte van een grote familie, die thuiskomt om te eten na een drukke dag.
De warmte van iemand in huis hebben, waar eenzaamheid nergens te bekennen is.
Het maakt niet uit of de kamer te klein of te groot is.
De warmte die we delen is het belangrijkste.

In the Transparant House – the Glass house of Omstand there are 6 artists exhibiting their work. Following the route of the glass house, the interior is depicting a home as well. We see a table, a carpet and a rat infestation in the space. But how can we be sure that it’s a home, can one live in this home? The artists tried to make an installation of a home by using only their artworks. By putting their paintings on the windows privacy of the home is created, and no functional curtains had to be used. There is laundry hanging from the ceiling, waiting to be dry. This home is waiting for someone to live in there. How would you like living in this open house? Luckily the chandelier is helping getting rid of the bad luck by having amulets.

What is home?
Perception of space can vary immensely depending on the subject that experiences it. While the comfort of a familiar environment can sometimes signify protection and care, a home can simultaneously equal a personal hell that one can’t escape. In the centre of the turbinekamers, the space appears replicated in a smaller scale, and made into a supposedly welcoming home. To create this installation, we were inspired by the short story The Yellow Wallpaper, to tell a story about enclosure that the audience can compose themselves, based on the different elements present in the space.
