In Medias Res: een tentoonstellingsserie,
In een zoektocht naar een gemeenschappelijk thema of een gedeelde tendens die is te bespeuren in het werk van jonge makers organiseert Omstand een jaarlijkse tentoonstellingsserie. Het doel van deze serie tentoonstellingen is om te vatten wat de makers van nu beweegt, de tijdgeest van nu te (be)grijpen en in een soort tijdcapsule te vangen.
De naam In Medias Res is ontleend aan de Latijnse term die zich vertaalt als: Een relatieve tijdsaanduiding, waarbij je midden in een verhaal valt. Vanuit die zoektocht ontstond een kerngedachte voor deze tentoonstelling, het werd een thema dat allesbehalve nieuw is want elke tijd kent zo zijn eigen kleur. Deze eerste editie van In Medias Res heeft als titel Ticket to the Future:

Ticket to the Future brengt de kunstwerken van acht kunstenaars bijeen die gewaagde toekomstvoorspellingen doen, of (droom)werelden creëren die ver van de onze af lijken te staan. Zij reageren niet direct op de grote thema’s die onze tijd domineren, zoals de oorlog in Oekraïne, woningnood, racisme, natuurrampen of depressieve klachten door de corona-epidemie, maar juist indirect. Ze doen dit door nieuwe werelden te scheppen die zich de ene keer manifesteren in buitenaardse, verontrustende en soms ronduit dystopische kunstwerken. Mensen hebben een soort fantasie en verlangen naar een andere wereld, vooral in tijden waarin de kleuren in onze fictieve werkelijkheid meer lijken te gloeien dan wat we daadwerkelijk om ons heen zien.

In Medias Res: an exhibition series,
In search for a common theme or trend that can be detected in the work of young makers, Omstand is organizing an annual exhibition series. The aim is to understand the spirit of the times and capture it in a kind of time capsule in order to grasp what moves contemporary makers. The name In Medias Res is taken from the Latin term meaning: A relative indication of time, in which one falls into the middle of a story. From that quest, a core idea for this exhibition emerged, it became a theme that is anything but new because every time has its own colour. This first edition of In Medias Res is entitled Ticket to the Future:

Ticket to the Future brings together the artworks of eight artist who make bold future predictions, or create (dream) worlds that seem far from our own. They do not respond directly to the major themes dominating our times, such as the war in Ukraine, housing shortages, racism, natural disasters or depression caused by the corona epidemic, but rather indirectly. They do this by creating new worlds, sometimes manifesting in otherworldly, disturbing and sometimes downright dystopian works of art. People have a kind of fantasy and longing for a different world, especially in times when the colours in our fictional reality seem to glow more than what we actually see around us.
