We programmeren twee verschillende onderdelen.

The Passenger:
t/m 24 juli 2022

From 4 June until 24 July 2022 Omstand is organising the group exhibition SOWIESO (Anyhow) of artists who originate from and/ or work in the Netherlands and Germany. This is an international exchange programme of
contemporary painting, by artists mainly from the regions of Arnhem, Düsseldorf and the Ruhr Area. It is of course curious that both in the Netherlands as well as in Germany, we seem to be so focused on our ‘own’ art and artists,
especially considering we are one another’s neighbours. Omstand wants to contribute to bridging this distance.
For this exhibition, the two curators have taken their own interest in painting as a starting point: “In the exhibition, we want to show contemporary, vital painting. We have selected works on the basis of the suspicion that, in the right context, an exciting interaction between the works will arise. These are painters we would like to see together, a celebration of painting”. For this programme,
André and Hendriks are working together with Nils Bleibtreu and Joel Roters, both operating from Germany. It concerns two different parts of the same programme. This first part is presented from June 4 to July 24, 2022 in the Netherlands at Omstand Arnhem. Next year in Kunsthaus Essen in Germany we will present the second part.

See you at Omstand!

Passenger:
Now Playing, untill July 24, 2022

– part of the Omstand film programme
– Passenger door Kaixin Chen – FullHD Video-loop – 00:21:34
Supervision by Jan-Pieter Karper

The Passenger is a research via three short films about the connection with Kaixin Chen’s living and work environment. By recording her daily rituals and habits, she emphasizes the inherent beauty that occurs within the ordinary. The films form a personal, yet universal triptych.
Kaixin Chen (1989, Guangdong CN) is a designer and filmmaker and currently pursuing a master’s degree at Werkplaats Typografie, Arnhem (NL). In her work, Kaixin constructs her own visual language in which she tells stories about her emotional experiences and on her sense of beauty. Chen’s work is personal and poetic and at times senseless. Chen explores her own logic and in doing so she walks the line between the ‘normal’ and the absurd, resulting in slow and silent work.
